Business brokers help sellers prepare for the sale of their business and market it to the right buyers, and they help buyers find the business that is right for them. Brokers typically have extensive training, experience, expertise, and an in-depth understanding of the business sales process.

All Canadian provinces with the exception of Alberta, require a real estate license in order to act as an intermediary in the purchase or sale of a business. There is an exemption in the Ontario real estate act TRESA (formerly the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act) that allows securities dealers to act as intermediaries in the sale of businesses. However, this exemption is not available to people dually registered with RECO and the OSC.
